Logistics startup with an objective to become the “Uber of the Trucking Sector”
with the help of data analytics
A trucking startup that wants to become the "Uber of the Trucking Industry" set out to tap the power of analytics to redefine the way freight is moved. The startup focused on tracking vehicle and driver performance by gathering information from in-cab sensors (vehicle telemetry) as well as trends in order volumes and routes. They sought to simplify operations, reduce inefficiencies, and create a more informed, data-driven logistics system.
To make this vision a reality, we built a tailored backend for their trucking platform that allowed them to monetize return trips when they were empty—one of the longest-standing inefficiencies in the business. By building a dynamic freight marketplace, the solution allowed transporters to find new loads for return trips, turning lost capacity into revenue streams. The solution employed a mix of AWS Data Lake, AWS microservices, machine learning, and advanced analytics to deliver scalability, speed, and intelligence across the platform.
The impact was immediate and dramatic. The startup realized reduced fuel costs and significant reload optimization. Improved scheduling accuracy for drivers and trucks meant improved utilization and planning, with smarter routing algorithms reducing unnecessary travel. The platform also enabled greater, more detailed analysis of driver activity, such as rest cycles, travel behavior, and performance history—laying the groundwork for continued operational improvement and competitive edge in the digital freight marketplace.
